Education in Kirkcaldy
Kirkcaldy is home to four secondary schools and eleven primary schools. Other educational facilities include a private school and a special education school which caters for children with specific learning requirements. In addition, Kirkcaldy sports a large college which has been recently refurbished to a very high standard.
The college has two campuses; Fife College and Dundee University’s Nursing and Midwifery faculty. Dunnikier primary and nursery school is a friendly and welcoming state school. It is located in the centre of Kirkcaldy and accommodates approximately 370 primary school children (Primaries 1-7) and 100 nursery children.
Opened in 1893, Dunnikier primary and nursery school has a long standing reputation in Kirkcaldy and identifies it’s school moto as ‘One School, Many Individuals’, describing the school as ‘a happy place where every pupil experiences success’.
Strathallan Primary School, Strathallan Drive, Kirkcaldy, KY2 5YP
Strathallan Primary School is a modern state primary school situated within a large housing estate in the West of Kirkcaldy. It is bordered by Raith Estate and containing woods and grass areas. Strathallan Primary School was opened in 2007 and has interactive white boards in all 13 classrooms.
The school is ideally situated for children living in the large estate off Oriel Road in Kirkcaldy. The nursery and primary school incorporate into learning the surrounding area of woods and open space and have both a breakfast and afterschool club.
Kirkcaldy High Schools
Kirkcaldy West – Balwearie High School, Balwearie Gardens, Kirkcaldy, KY2 5LY
Balwearie High School is a large comprehensive secondary school of around 1700 pupils, situated at Balwearie Gardens in the south-west of Kirkcaldy. Balwearie High School serves its local community and the small nearby towns of Auchtertool, Burntisland and Kinghorn.
Kirkcaldy North – Kirkcaldy High School, Dunnikier Way, Kirkcaldy KY1 3LR
Kirkcaldy High School is situated next to the beautiful Dunnikier Park, in the north of Kirkcaldy and has around 1100 pupils. Kirkcaldy High School was first established 1582, with the present campus being opened by the Queen in 1958.
Kirkcaldy North-East – St. Andrews R C High School, Overton Road, Kirkcaldy, KY1 3JL
St. Andrews R C High school is situated in the North-East of Kirkcaldy and is one of two Catholic high schools in Fife. The school is located on Overton Road and fosters a caring atmosphere in which tolerance and respect for others are promoted.
Kirkcaldy East – Viewforth High School, Loughborough Road, Kirkcaldy, KY1 3DE
Viewforth High School is a non-denominational, co-educational secondary school, built in 1908. The current building is located on Loughborough Road in the East of Kirkcaldy and caters for the surrounding area and the nearby burgh of Dysart. Kirkcaldy Shopping and Retail
When it comes to stocking up your cupboards and fridge Kirkcaldy has plenty of choice to select a supermarket from which to shop. All the main supermarkets are situated within the town, with cost efficient stores such as Aldis and Lidls suiting the preferences of the cost conscious shopper. In addition, Asda and Sainsbury are located in the north of the town and Tesco and Morrisons in the south. All have excellent parking and nearby public transport facilities.
Kirkcaldy also has two main commercial shopping centres. Kirkcaldy High Street runs adjacent to the promenade on the south of the town with the retail park located on the north of the town.

Kirkcaldy also has three large parks to enjoy, Beveridge Park (Kirkcaldy West), Ravenscraig Park (Kirkcaldy East) and Dunnikier Park (Kirkcaldy North). Each have various attractions and activities and many woodland, coastal and country walks.

This park was gifted to the town by linoleum manufacturer Michael Beveridge in 1892 and has many pleasant features including, formal gardens, play and skate facilities, woodland walks, a duck pond where boating is available and sporting facilities.
East Lodge Ravenscraig Park
Dysart Road, Kirkcaldy, KY1 2TA
Donated to the town in 1929 by the Nairn family, Ravenscraig Park is located alongside the ruin of Ravenscraig Castle which was built by James II in 1460 as a defence against the English and Pirates who Harried the Firth of Forth.
The park is situated along the coast and has attractions such as coastal and woodland walks, play and sporting facilities and views of the Firth of Forth, as well as access to the ruin of Ravenscraig Castle.

Dunnikier Park lies to the north of Kirkcaldy situated around Dunnikier Golf Course and Dunnikier House Hotel. Facilities include, play facilities, skate ramps and numerous woodland walks within the surrounding area.
